Update for Google Maps on Android brings custom place icons

By Jules Wang March 18, 2016, 10:20 pm

Another update to Google Maps — our favorite workbench for very cute or very useful editions — and this time around, it hits home. And work. And other places.

As long as you have your home and work addresses saved onto the Android app, you can now put some fanciful icons that show off the castle you call your abode. Or a woodshed. Or an adobe settlement. A shoe? Are you an old lady from a Mother Goose poem? Maybe you work at a windmill or a schoolhouse. The art’s all up to you to choose.

Google is also promoting that you can edit icons for saved places other than your home or work, but we haven’t been able to make that happen on our phones. Those yellow stars will have to stick with us for now.
