Google Hangouts 4.0 brings a faster and simpler UI to Android

Google’s approach to messaging is quite confusing if you account for the amount of services it owns, but it’s safe to say that Google Hangouts has proven to be its most popular offering. We’ve seen the company push updates that continuously merge more and more of its services with Hangouts, so it’ safe to say that this will be the app to rule them all.

Today Google has launched major update to the Google Hangouts Android application, pushing it now to version 4.0. Some of the changes are visual, as Google continues to push for its Material Design across all of its services. Other changes include a new Compose button, which makes it easier to start new group conversations. It streamlines contact information, making it easier to find who you want to contact, and it simplifies how to attach files, emoji, GIFs, etc. An added bonus is that Google Hangouts will also be faster in message delivery, and even more efficient on battery consumption.

Google also mentions its Hangouts Dialer with a new Outbound Caller ID, group MMS support for Hangouts using Google Voice, and even a new UI for Android Wear. Expect all these changes to roll out to your device today.
