In a marketplace where custom-printed cases (or skins) for pretty much any mainstream smartphone are quite accessible, Google has only just seemed to catch on that it would be a great idea to make this happen as well. Maybe certain circumstances prevented the revenues behemoth from doing this, but hey, at least now you can make your very own Live Case. Yep, those unique little things that Skrillex had a part of for a second with a weather balloon or something.

These custom Live Cases for the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are now available for $35 and in two main forms: “Places” and “Photos”.

The Photos Live Case is pretty self-explanatory: you can upload a high-res photo and have it plastered onto a shell case for your applicable Nexus. Almost the same thing for the Places Live Case — the case maker application starts you off at your home area from which you can search for a certain place you’re fond of and then pan and zoom as desired. On both cases, you get different patterning and color palettes to refine and define the resulting lines and squiggles.

Here’s the cool thing: all these cases have an embedded NFC button that you can press. The first time you hit it, it prompts you to download the My Live Case app. You can then tailor a bunch of complementary wallpapers and app associations with that button.

That’s pretty unique stuff for your measly $35. You just have to have a recent Nexus phone to take advantage of it.
