Remember when gold mobile devices were the epitome of tackiness, bad taste, and just generally poor decision-making? How far we’ve come, and thanks to some new alignment of the stars, gold phones now find themselves very much in vogue. If you’re a manufacturer who missed the boat on launching your latest gear with a gold option, it might be worth your while to think long and hard about correcting that tragic oversight with a fresh new edition. Today, that’s just what Microsoft is doing, introducing a new, gold Surface Pen alongside some really tricked-out, high-end Surface hardware.

This gold Surface Pen doesn’t offer anything in the way of new tricks; it’s the same Pen we’ve already known, compatible with the Surface 3, Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, and Surface Book. Only this time, it’s in luxurious-looking gold. Finally, right? Microsoft’s selling the stylus bundled with a kit of alternate tips, and that can all be yours for just about $60.

As for that hardware, Microsoft is opening sales for some of the best-equipped Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book configurations we’ve seen.

For both of those, that means an Intel Core i7, 16GB of RAM, and a solid terabyte of storage. A Surface Book with those specs will run you nearly $3,200, while a similarly equipped Surface Pro 4 comes in at the slightly more affordable $2,700.
