Samsung’s Gear S2 has been kicking around since making its debut back at IFA last summer, but being more than few months old hasn’t done much to slow it down. Recently we’ve found ourselves looking at increased carrier availability of the Gear S2’s cell-connected model, forthcoming iOS support, and even a great deal on refurbished models. Those refurbs may be pretty tempting offers if you’re really interested in saving a buck, but what about smartwatch shoppers with the opposite concerns: those wanting a premium-above-all-else smartwatch and being willing to pay a pretty penny to get it? Samsung’s got just the thing, as it announces the diamond-studded Gear S2 by de Grisogono.
By partnering with the Swiss jeweler, Samsung has tricked-out the Gear S2 with diamonds, gold, and a galuchat (sharkskin leather) band. The rotating rose gold bezel houses 56 white diamonds, while the diamond-like carbon-coated steel sections of the watch body hold another 71 black diamonds – just about 3.0 carats altogether.
What’s all this luxury going to cost you? Well, that’s a damn good question, and one we don’t have the answer to at the moment. Samsung’s existing Gear S2 rose gold and platinum options already sell for $100 more than the smartwatch’s classic edition, and the use of even higher-end materials for this de Grisogono is bound to send prices skyward still.
All we know for the moment is that Samsung intends to get sales started sometime this summer – so start saving now if you want any chance at being able to afford one of these puppies.
