Since early February we’ve been hearing that Samsung might be working on a line of new Galaxy Tab 4 models. While the new TabPROs and the NotePRO debuted at CES, these Tab 4s sounded like they would offer Samsung fans a much more affordable alternative, with hardware far removed from what we saw on all those PRO editions. Samsung even mentioned such Tab 4 models on its own site (if only briefly), making this less a question of if these tablets would actually arrive one day, and more one of when they’d finally launch. We still don’t have that answer, but today we get what may well be our first look at one of the models, with leaks depicting the Tab 4 7.0 in white and black.

The first thing we notice about this design is how those side bezels are substantially reduced compared to last year’s Tab 3 – it’s very much an iPad 4/iPad Air situation. The only other major difference we see is how the edges are much more squared-off; it’s the same sort of change we’ve noticed in other Samsung product families.

But beyond that, the hardware home button returns (along with its capacitive friends), and general button/sensor placement looks untouched from last year.

Admittedly, tightening up the side bezels feels a good move, but knowing Samsung and its tablets like we do, we’re still worried that these Tab 4 models might come in overpriced and underspecced.
