We know the gap between the world’s largest smartphone market and its top two contenders is quite large, but even so, could the sizzling hot new Samsung flagship handhelds rack up 10 or 15 million unit sales in China alone by the end of this very month?

That sounds highly unlikely, despite European pre-orders comfortably eclipsing the demand generated by the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge on the old continent in the days leading up to their own official launches. After all, the GS7 and S7 Edge barely achieved 100,000 unit sales in Korea within 48 hours of their retail store rollout.

10 million is exactly 100 times that, and although the term “pre-orders” is mentioned more than once in Sam Mobile’s latest report, we’re guessing reservations or registrations are the better words to sum up the seemingly incredible tally.

That’s something else entirely, as recently, the Xiaomi Mi 5 yielded over 14 million of those too. And back in the day, the LeTV Le 1s purportedly scored 11 million registrations in a week, yet the manufacturer as a whole only shipped 4 million phones in 2015.

Bottom line, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge might be hugely popular in China, more so than their predecessors, the iPhone 6s and any other high-end device available, but they couldn’t have possibly totaled 10 million+ pre-orders already. Nor will they reach or surpass 15 million by March 18, when they’re slated to start shipping around those parts.
