Wireless network technology is in a constant state of advancement. Just years ago, swooning over 3G-capable phones wasn’t as heinous as it sounds today, and we’re already in a world where the majority of some countries is blanketed with LTE networks. The natural next step in the evolution is the adoption of voice-over-LTE / HD voice technology in order to improve the dying voice call. And AT&T is continuing that momentum with updates to a portion of its smartphone fleet, including through this Galaxy S4 Mini VoLTE update today.

The update is only for AT&T-branded units (specifically, model number I257) and should be arriving to users as we speak in standard OTA fashion. In other words, you should be able to check for updates through Settings and pull down the update immediately. Depending on which firmware your Galaxy S4 Mini is currently running, the update can weigh in anywhere between 102 and 595MB in size, so be sure you have adequate space available to go through with the update.

If the update isn’t immediately available, chances are it’ll show up in just a few hours. Here’s the full changelog:

  • VoLTE inter-op call hold
  • SIM less 911 Dialing update
  • ISIM SQN re-sync for VoLTE reregistration
  • v4v6 for IMS PDN while roaming
