Samsung Announces Public Unpacked Experience in Times Square

While the Galaxy S IV didn’t make an appearance at the Mobile World Congress, that didn’t stop Samsung from using the phone’s forthcoming launch to steal a little bit of thunder from the smartphones that did make the trip to Barcelona, using the event to begin distribution of invitations to its next Unpacked event, scheduled for March 14. Between outright saying that the event will feature “the next Galaxy” model, and some coy use of the numeral 4, it doesn’t take a genius to work out what Samsung plans to reveal. While we’ll be on-site for the private press event, Android fans in New York will have the chance to check out some of the festivities themselves, with Samsung announcing a public event in Times Square.

Now, this may be as simple as using one of Times Square’s gigantic screens to livestream the event, but for all we know there could be a bit more to it than that. Samsung invites the public to “experience Samsung’s new flagship smartphone at Times Square,” so it’s not inconceivable that it might have some sort of mobile presence giving the public an early look at the hardware itself. We know, that doesn’t sound incredibly likely, but Samsung has been stepping up its promotional game, and a stunt like that might be a great way to further bolster public interest in its smartphones.
