Multi-user, dual-cam video chat in the works for Galaxy S 5?

Sometimes it seems that Samsung loves little more than packing a new phone full of software features of dubious value, but which make for great demos during launch events or in stores. Next year’s Galaxy S 5 will almost certainty follow suit, but what can we actually expect from its software? A newly uncovered document sheds some light on the situation, revealing Samsung’s work on a multi-user video chat system.
Multi-user video chat? So, Hangouts? Yeah – kinda. Samsung is never a company to leave well enough alone, and it seems it just felt compelled to roll its own solution.
The paperwork, filed with the Korean Intellectual Property Rights Information Service, gives us a glimpse at the UI for this software, revealing a few of its tricks. For instance, it sure looks like this will feature a live version of the dual-camera mode we saw on the Galaxy S 4, letting you send participants both video of yourself, as well as footage from your phone’s rear camera. It sounds simple, but we can already imagine a few instances where it could come it really handy. On its own – maybe not worth getting worked up over – but throw in a few more interesting software features…
