A couple weeks back, our expectations for the follow-up to Samsung’s Galaxy S 4 started going a little off-course, with the suggestion that the company was looking to rush the Galaxy S 5 to market, launching the phone as soon as January. Purportedly an action in response to less-than-stellar GS4 sales, word of this possible change of plans had us reconsidering what we were looking forward to for the phone. Taking some cues from the arrival of the Galaxy J, we wondered if a plastic body – and even Hyperglaze – might make a return, and the rumored metal build would have to wait for future Samsung phones. Today we find ourselves looking at some more rumors in that vein, with the claim that the GS5’s design could mirror the Galaxy Note 3’s.

That means a plastic back, but at least no Hyperglaze, featuring the Note 3’s faux leather plastic texture, instead.

We’re not quite sure how to feel about that idea just yet. Sure, metal would have been nice, but the GN3 had a good feel to it, and compared to the alternative of a GS5 that has more in common with the GS4’s design, we’ll take the Note 3’s look any day.

Maybe this means that metal-bodied Samsung phones really will stick to their own niche family, the previously rumored Galaxy F line. Then again, this rumor doesn’t exactly come from a known, reliable source – that’s not to say that it’s necessarily incorrect, but we should at least keep the possibility in mind.
