Galaxy Note7 confirmed* as device name, Samsung does indeed skip a number

Here’s a quick one to quench your rumor thirst for the weekend. Evan Blass just confirmed (remember that he’s not Samsung) that the official name of the upcoming Samsung (fall) smartphone will be Galaxy Note7.

We already heard rumors of the company skipping a number (we’re currently at Note5), among other chatter, but this time around it looks to be the real deal. There will be no Galaxy Note6. There could be a lot of reasons behind such a move from Samsung: lining the Note family up with the Galaxy S family (currently at number 7), in addition to counter Apple’s upcoming phablet, expected to the iPhone 7 Plus (and/or iPhone 7 Pro).

Samsung has been historically announcing the newest Note at IFA in Berlin, but there have also been exceptions to the rule. This year, the South Korean company is expected to hold a special event at the beginning of August where the Galaxy Note7 will see the light of day.

We’ll tell you everything about it, but, until then, we’re left with the leaks and rumors.
