Samsung Galaxy Note 3 – After The Buzz, episode 028

Most new device launches go the same way: usually the press gets review units before they’re widely available, and we get to use them for a few days -or a week if we’re lucky- as we work on our review.
Then press day arrives. The embargo on media coverage lifts, and everyone posts their reviews and videos at the same time. It’s a huge frenzy, commenters go nuts, and it’s a giant explosion of frantic opinion-sharing activity.
For about … a day. And then it all goes away. Sure, there’s followup coverage as people find bugs and hidden features, but after that initial blast, not many people revisit the device to see how it feels a few months later, because everyone’s already focused on the next big deal coming down the pipe.
So let’s do something about that. Let’s see how we feel about devices when they’re not shiny and new anymore. This is After The Buzz.

We’ve come a long way since the first Galaxy Note. No longer just a surprisingly-successful side project, the Note family now represents the very best that Samsung’s Android lineup has to offer. In our full review back in October, we called the device “the most capable, most powerful phablet on the market,” and the Note 3 went on to sell over 10 million units in only two months. And it was the Note 3, following in the footsteps of its venerable predecessor, that delivered some of the most robust support to the Pocketnow team during the crucible of the 2014 International CES
But it’s a whole new world out there, one with a seemingly endless supply of phablet rivals. Whether the Note 3 can withstand that competitive pressure as 2014 marches on is a question only answerable via another close look at its hardware, its software – and even its curious little smart watch sidekick. Only then will we be able to say how well the world’s best-known phablet has managed to bear up in the four months since its announcement. So join us as we embark on episode 28 of After The Buzz: our Galaxy Note 3 review, part deux!
