Long before the arrival of Samsung’s Galaxy E series of phones, long before before the Galaxy A models launched, Samsung had its Galaxy J. Introduced all the way back at the tail end of 2013, we’ve since seen the original Galaxy J joined by the Galaxy J1. To hear the latest rumors, that’s far from the end of the story, and we could have another couple Galaxy J phones coming down the pipeline soon, with the arrival of the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7.
Those are names we’ve seen before, with Samsung filing trademarks for both a few months back. While that also included a trademark for the Galaxy J3, that model doesn’t show up as part of this new rumor.
To hear this account, the J5 will be a 5-inch model with an HD screen (presumably 720p), 1.5GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 410 SoC, 8GB storage (with microSD expansion), and a 2,600mAh battery. The phone would measure 8.5mm thick, have a 13MP main camera (with 5MP front-facer), and run Android 5.1 Lollipop.
As for the J7, that would one would grow to 5.5 inches, swap SoCs for an octa-core Marvel component, add a 4GB storage option, and drop to 7.9mm thick while still finding room for a 3,000mAh battery.
While those specs sound relatively comprehensive, they’re also far from final, and this source admits that some details may change – like main camera resolution dropping to 8MP. There’s no mention of pricing, but with the Galaxy J line becoming a lower-middle-tier device class, we imagine Samsung would have affordability on the mind.
