Samsung introduced the original Galaxy Gear a scant six months ago. That’s it. In the time since, we’ve not only seen Samsung’s second generation of smartwatches debut, but now this Android Wear news has totally shaken-up the market – we’ve come a long way in a very short time. While newer devices are already waiting for us, and the next big thing is perched on the horizon, the first Galaxy Gear is still a relatively recent, quite capable smartwatch that may not be worth dismissing altogether just yet. If you’ve been curious about smartwatches and have just been waiting for a decent model to pick up an attractive price, we may have the deal for you, with Best Buy offering refurbished first-gen Galaxy Gears for $99.99, today only.

This is easily the best price we’ve seen to date on the Galaxy Gear. We caught it at $150 before, and were excited to even find it that low, so this effective $100 price tag is just phenomenal.

And even though the original Galaxy Gear ran Android and the new models come with Tizen, these older watches will see updates to similarly transform them to Tizen devices, capable of running all the latest Gear software.

Sure, you still have the issue of compatibility with only select Samsung phones to deal with, and the strap-mounted camera isn’t anywhere near as graceful as the Gear 2’s design, but when we’re talking about a mere $100, this offer might be too good to pass up.
