Just as the rumors implied, Microsoft, Japanese operator KDDI and Fujitsu-Toshiba held a press event where the IS12T was introduced as Japan’s first Windows Phone and also the world’s first Windows Phone running the new platform refresh, Mango.

The IS12T sports a Qualcomm MSM8655 CPU with an unknown/undisclosed frequency — the same you’ll find in the Verizon HTC Thunderbolt running at 1GHz — 32GB of internal memory, 3.7-inch WVGA screen, 13.2-megapixel camera plus the usual suspects: Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi b/g/n and sensors. In addition to the phone being waterproof, it will be offered in three color variants (citrus, magenta, and black) and will be available starting September.

The device will be running Windows Phone Mango and if you haven’t already read our Mango preview, KDDI has a couple of demo videos of the IS12T in action showing off the new mobile OS from Redmond.
