If you haven’t been thinking of Japanese smartphone manufacturers lately, — Sony included — well, we don’t blame you. But while all the new sprouts have been in China, Europe and even in the US, FREETEL has now given North America two reasons to look at it: a potential OnePlus 2 killer and what might become the continent’s first Android flip phone.
In addition to two lower-end Android devices, FREETEL will bring its latest flagship, dubbed the Kiwami. It has a six-inch quad HD display, cameras back and front at 21 and 8 megapixels respectively, a fingerprint sensor, and a 3,400mAh battery.
Digging deeper inside, we find an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 running the show with the help of 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. And all of this goes unlocked for the exact same price as a 64GB OnePlus 2: $389.
Expect the Kiwami as well as the Miyabi and the Priori3 sometime this quarter. All three start out with Android 5.1 with promises for updates as soon as builds are stable.
Come next quarter, the American continent might just get its first official Android flip phone, the Musashi.
