While many tech analysts and consumers have come together to rue the demise of mainstream affordable tablets lately, Panasonic continues to do the unthinkable by keeping the nichey Toughpad line afloat.

The newest such model, numbered FZ-G1, is not only heinous by most fashion standards, with an ultra-rugged exterior, also running Windows 10 Pro, far from the go-to mobile OS choice for the masses. On top of it all, the 10-incher is set to cost a small fortune on British shores, at a starting price of £1,700 ($2,270) + tax.

Still, the fourth-generation Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1 has a very distinct and demanding target audience, which will not think twice about splashing the cash on water, dust and shock resistance, Intel Core i5 Pro “Skylake” processing power, base 14-hour battery life, optional 28-hour autonomy, Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 WLAN and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity.

We’re talking general business users here, as well as professionals in specific fields like retail, manufacturing, utilities, logistics and emergency services. All these people (and especially their employers) should appreciate the relatively lightweight form factor of the latest 10.1-inch Toughpad, 1,920 x 1,200 screen resolution, Intel HD graphics 520, flexible configuration port, and 3-year standard warranty too.
