Flash Player 10.2 for Android Coming Next Week

Adobe recently updated Flash Player on desktop machines, and a similar update for the Flash Player for Android will be coming within the next several days. According to their blog, Adobe says Flash Player 10.2 will be available for download on March 18th, 2011 from the Android Market.

Just like the current version, 10.2 will require that you are running Android 2.2 Froyo or above, and that your device meets the minimum hardware requirements.

In addition to enhancements for smartphones, this version also serves as a beta for Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablets — but you’ll need to be running version Honeycomb 3.0.1 to be able to use it, which is rolling out now on the Motorola Xoom. Adobe and Google have been working closely together to ensure tight integration between the app and the new OS and browser capabilities that come with Honeycomb.

Some of the features to look forward to in the Flash Player 10.2 for Android include:

+ Hardware accelerated video presentation for H.264 (Android 3.0.1+)

+ Deeper integration with the Android browser rendering engine (Android 3.0.1+)

+ Better content rendering (Android 2.2+)

+ Improved scrolling of web pages (Android 2.2+)

+ In-page viewing of Flash objects (Android 3.0.1+)*

+ Enhanced performance for the latest smartphones and tablets (Android 2.2+)

+ Automatic soft keyboard support including a new ActionScript API that enables developers to automatically launch and display the soft keyboard (Android 2.2+)

* Android 2.2 & 2.3 will still render Flash content in a separate window on top of HTML in the Android 2.2 and 2.3 browsers since these browsers doesn’t support the new Android 3.0.1 browser rendering model (yet).
