When factories make their moves all at once, you know that Apple has to be doing something funky.
In this case, a tipster has forwarded a rumor clip to Mobipicker that details a change in strategy for Apple by not just releasing an iPhone 7 and an iPhone 7 Plus, but a third model — either called the iPhone 7 Pro or iPhone 7 Premium.
We saw schematics leaked out for a supposed “iPhone Pro” and a deluge of computer-aided design leaks of what could be the next iPhone 7 and an iPhone 7 Plus, both with Smart Connectors. It seems that we in the media may have conflated the two phones. Macotakara reported that the Smart Connector was shelved for the iPhone 7 Plus. KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo has talked about expanding the availability of dual-camera units to every 5.5-inch iPhone — perhaps only the iPhone Pro was meant to get them in the first place. It’s going to be an interesting run up to September deciphering what “Pro” really means to Apple.
With more units and technical specifications to push out, there’s reportedly good news from Apple’s subcontractors, too. Both Foxconn and Pegatron have started hiring frenzies at several of their factories. For Foxconn, it’s the first hiring round that has happened after Mayday in three years.
