Google Assistant is expected to be launched next month and feature intelligent and convenient reservation-making and instant payments. Facebook, which has been working on its own bot-based ecosystem through its Messenger Platform, has launched version 1.2 of that platform.
It will allow bot-enabled entities on Facebook from small businesses to large corporations to let users effectively shop within Messenger — some News Feed ads have started to redirect to Messenger threads — with product and customization prompts, an integrated checkout and payment process and notifications on shipments or changes in the order. Facebook users can share service bots they like with their friends as well.
These features are available to Facebook’s larger partners starting today, but it’ll take time to see if people start shopping through Facebook.
