After months of parts procurement and electrical engineering, a crowd-designed Surface challenger is nearly ready to go onto its funding stage. Finnish startup Eve has announced some of the terms of its Indiegogo campaign behind its Pyramid Flipper project.
Pre-orders are scheduled to begin in late September or early October for 500 units of the Pyramid Flipper, soon to be known as just “Eve”.
“By selling only 500 devices we wold be able to ensure our customer service, shipping and other operational activities function smoothly,” co-founder Konstantinos Karatsevidis wrote in a forum post.
Another pre-order batch may be opened up for later shipping if demand warrants it. The first boxes should head out in December and January and full-scale pre-orders may begin on Eve’s own website.
The company is asking its community members to think up some perks for themselves and for early bird Indiegogo supporters like engravings, the usual apparel and perhaps a discount. It’s also asking for a few specific CPU and memory configurations to set price tiers. Eve is mostly working with 4.5W Intel Core processors and is promising a minimum of 8GB of RAM as “anything below is just screwing up the consumer.”
It’s been an interesting process to watch not only how a device gets made, but the democratization of that process — something ZTE is trying to replicate with its own Project CSX. Capitalistic democracy will be the ultimate word on how this project results.
