Evangelion celebrates 20th anniversary with a Sharp phone for 7-Eleven Japan

This is something to be proud of, as opposed to that Galaxy Note 5 modification that voids your warranty. It’s also flexing Sharp’s muscle in its homeland, too.

A special edition Sharp AQUOS SH-M02 (that’s the official model name, by the way) will be made available by 7-Eleven to some 30,000 lucky fans on November 2. The extra EVA-20 designation marks the 20th anniversary of the anime series Evangelion.

This is actually the second such special Evangelion/Sharp collaborated smartphone this year. The first one was distributed through NTT DoCoMo.

In addition to the special wrap design and color scheme, 7-Eleven also promises a total of 365 wallpapers — 12 available from the start with the rest popping up day by day. 55 sound clips will also be made available for ringtones or notifications.

The unlocked phone will run Android 5.0 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, with 16GB of microSD-expandable storage and 2GB of RAM. It’s IPX5 and IPX7 rated as well.

You’re going to have to visit a Japanese 7-Eleven to reserve your phone, though. Also, have ‎¥84,240 ($702.50 as of this post) ready.

A set of 5,000 will ship in December while the rest go out next April, so there is incentive in shouting down your cashier at 10:01am JST on November 2, telling him or her to hurry the heck up with your order. Or maybe just be courteous.
