Double tap to wake. LG‘s done it. So has HTC. Several others, too. It’s faster and doesn’t need as much effort as pressing a button. Previous Nokia Lumias have this feature — particularly talking about the pre-Windows 10 Mobile handsets. It’s not on the Lumia 950. Neither on the Lumia 950 XL.
So, when Microsoft’s Gabriel Aul, who was promoting progress on a debug effort, answers a tweet requesting the double tap feature on the Lumia 950 XL as such:
@RayVanEe Double tap on 950 is a common request, upvote it in Feedback Hub!

… it attracted scorn from a few fellow critics.

Being fair, while the “Bug Bash” thread turned into a “Windows Bash” thread, it was only limited to three participants. But the sentiment stands — upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile shouldn’t have meant downgrading a feature out of the field. Also, why do users have to beg for a popular feature to come back?
Well, those questions may not get proper answers, but there is some good news out of all this: Dr. Windows has a screenshot from a 950 XL of the feature in a settings menu in an upcoming Fast Ring build. From the outlet’s source, it’s in internal tests right now, but if it gets through to the push-out, the feature should address the more than 10,000 responses logged on the Feedback Hub.
