Surely, we’ve heard way too little (nothing, actually) about a prospective third-generation ZenWatch thus far for a new take on one of very few surviving rectangular Android Wear designs to debut at the pre-IFA Asus Zenvolution conference in Berlin, Germany on August 31.
But surprise, surprise, a not-so-cryptic device has just been sighted swinging by the FCC for mandatory certification ahead of a no doubt imminent US commercial launch, and it’s got the Asus ZenWatch 3 name plastered on its rear housing in an unexpectedly revealing blueprint.
This also previews a long overdue form shift to a trendy circle that everyone from Samsung to Huawei, Motorola and LG (though not Apple) seems to favor these days over awkward, outdated squares and rectangles.
Granted, the now dirt-cheap original ZenWatch and especially last year’s model were stylish in their own rights, so hopefully, Asus can maintain a similar uniqueness and unconventional spirit, despite going with the round-shaped flow.
What’s interesting is that after many months of complete silence on the high-profile smartwatch release front, IFA 2016 could bring to light this Asus ZenWatch 3, Android Wear-powered cousins from Moto and Huawei, as well as the Samsung Gear S3. Which one are you most excited for?
