China smartphone market continues to slow down, Huawei grows

According to a recent DigiTimes research, the China smartphone market is continuously shrinking. After a 20% decline in the fourth-quarter of 2018, compared to the same period of 2017, the research predicts that it will continue to decline 10% in the first quarter of 2019. That corresponds to a number that is below 80 million units on the China smartphone market.

The last quarter of 2018 saw shipments of below 100 million units, despite being a prolific period of the year, claims the research. All top five brands are suffering from the slowing market, except Huawei, which managed to obtain a 10% gain. Because of the recent event surrounding Huawei, the company benefits from great local support, in the detriment of Apple, which saw a 40% decline on year in the fourth quarter. Other domestic brands slowed down as well, but by around 20%, the research notes.
