A couple days back, we learned of the release of Facebook 6.0 for iOS, bringing Apple users the new Chat Heads feature which debuted with Facebook Home for Android. The Android implementation was especially cool because the Heads would follow you from app to app, letting you continue conversations as you continued to use your phone, outside of any Facebook apps. On iOS, however, the Chat Heads are confined to the Facebook app itself. Not content to let this injustice stand, at least one iOS developer has been hacking away at the new Facebook app, determined to bring iOS users (or at least those with jailbroken handsets) the same pervasive Chat Heads experience their Android brethren are enjoying.

Right now, it’s still a work in progress, but the basics appear to be functional. Sure, the Chat Heads freeze up occasionally, and there have reportedly been issues with the keyboard, but once all that gets ironed-out, this looks like it could be pretty impressive. Still, it has its limitations, and initially there won’t be anything like the SMS integration seen on Android.

It will be ready when it’s ready, but there’s a good chance that in just a few day’s time we could see this project released to Cydia for you to download and install.
