What’s HTC up to this year with its Butterfly series of Androids? While in the past it’s been something like a One-relative with a focus on Asian markets, this year we have the One M9 Plus, which also hits a lot of the same notes we’d expect from a Butterfly model. Indeed, just last month we were checking out some Butterfly 3 rumors that suggested the phone could get a quad HD 5.2-inch display, just like on the One M9 Plus. This week some possible Butterfly 3 specs have been uncovered via benchmark, and while they still share some important similarities with the One M9 Plus, it’s starting to become more apparent how the Butterfly 3 will stand on its own.
While the idea of a quad HD display is back, this time we appear to be looking at one that’s not quite exactly the same as the panel on the M9 Plus, measuring-in at a slightly smaller 5.1 inches. Not an appreciable difference, perhaps, but one that helps assert that the Butterfly 3 is it’s own phone, and not the M9 Plus under a different name. Along that same line, unlike the MediaTek chip in the M9 Plus, the Butterfly 3 would get a Snapdragon 810, just like the M9 proper.
Other hardware details revealed in this find include 3GB of RAM, 32GB storage, a 20MP main camera and a high-res 13MP front-facer.
Last we heard, HTC could be planning to launch the Butterfly 3 sometime in May, though that’s still not official.
