Microsoft IoT in Action event

Rumor has it that Microsoft is planning on releasing an update (or series of updates) to Windows 8 sometime later this year, which so far has been referred to by the codename Windows Blue. We’ve talked a little about it already, back when we heard it might include enhancements to help Windows 8 retain functionality on smaller-screened devices. Now some new rumors suggest that this release might also be targeted at Windows Phone 8, and bring with it a whole bunch of smartphone-specifc enhancements.

Mary Jo Foley has heard from her sources that Blue might deliver new versions of Internet Explorer, Mail, Calendar, Bing, and some other Microsoft apps. It could also include unspecified enhancements to the platform’s user experience, as well as tweaks improving phone performance and increasing battery life.

We know, that’s all pretty vague at the moment, but as we move further into 2013, and closer to when Blue is expected to be released, we’re hoping to get a more complete picture on what we might be able to expect.
