Blass on Galaxy S7 Active: beefier body coming to AT&T June 10

If Kyocera just isn’t doing anything for your rugged phone needs, perhaps you’re just a few weeks away from getting your hands on a Samsung solution. For the fourth consecutive year, we’re looking forward to an AT&T co-opted Galaxy S Active device, tacky as it may look.

Previous rumors seemed to say that the Active model would more likely take on the dimensions of the Galaxy S7 edge rather the plain ‘ol Galaxy S7. It’s better that VentureBeat‘s Evan Blass can give us a better idea of what will go into the phone based off a spec sheet the publication has acquired.

So, a Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel main camera with Dual Pixel focusing tech, Android Marshmallow and a 5.1-inch quad HD display. Yep, that sounds more like a Galaxy S7 to us.

But unlike that phone, we’re looking at 2mm increase in thickness to 9.9mm and 33 grams more mass to 185 grams — likely because Samsung made room for a 4,000mAh battery, one-third larger than the one found on the regular S7. All these numbers even eclipse the three previous Active models.

This is all for the AT&T-exclusive phone that will likely start sales on June 10. We’re not exactly sure what to make of these Galaxy S7 Active renders without an AT&T logo. We also don’t have ingress protection ratings to compare with.
