BlackBerry Z10 Off To a Great Start In India, Getting WhatsApp Next Week

There will always be speculation whenever official sales numbers are lacking and, whether there is a place or not for a fourth player in the game, BlackBerry seems to enjoy a great reaction on the market. “In a couple of markets where we launched first, about 45 per cent of people who bought BB10 device were unique customers who were using phones of some other brand,” said Sunil Dutt, Managing Director, BlackBerry India. He also added that internal forecasts have “been beefed up for BB10 devices by about 40 per cent after seeing the response in other markets”.

While at the Communitech Tech Leadership Conference, BlackBerry’s CEO, Thorsten Heins, reiterated the same idea, while applauding the great feedback on the market: “what has been a real surprise for us is that BlackBerry 10 as a platform and product is attracting users that are currently on other platforms”. The Indian launch was a success and now the company is “scrambling to re-load that channel”.

On a related note, BlackBerry customers who are fans of WhatsApp will be able to download it next week, according to a recent tweet. By adding the popular messaging application BlackBerry is shortening the list of must-have applications that are not yet present on the ecosystem.
