Another rumor has emerged to further confuse the issue of the BlackBerry Storm 3, with BlackBerry Leaks claiming to have received conflicting specs for this vaporous device from multiple sources. However, the Storm 3 being referred to by the site is not the Storm 3 9570 we just saw pop up in Verizon’s Cellebrite system — a.k.a. the Storm 2 OS 6 refresh — but supposedly that handset with capacitive buttons which surfaced back in September courtesy of Berry Review. The Storm 9570 was recently rumored to have been canceled, further muddying the situation.

So this device, which we’ll call the Storm 3.x here for the sake of clarity, is alleged to sport a 3.7-inch capacitive AMOLED screen (hopefully of a higher resolution than the 360 x 480 on the Storm and Storm2), optical trackpad, Bluetooth 3.0, and the usual complement of radios. However, sources apparently cannot agree on the amount of RAM (512MB or 1GB), internal storage (8GB or 16GB), or camera resolution (five megapixels or eight megapixels) — though everyone seems to concur that it will be a fixed focus job with dual LED flash.

The report goes on to speculate that the Storm 3.x may turn out to be the first 4G-compatible BlackBerry, and previous rumors have it transitioning from the BlackBerry OS to the QNX platform that powers the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. We’d also heard that upcoming models in the Storm line would adopt more sensors such as compasses and accelerometers.
