“BlackBerry,” you may be ready to ask, “isn’t that a dead platform?” Sure, RIM’s long-term prospects are a bit uncertain, at best, but the company’s PlayBook tablet is still an interesting piece of hardware, and for today only you can snag one at what might be the lowest price we’ve ever seen.

Daily Steals, the same site that had the Sony LiveView smartwatch for just $20 last month, is selling refurbished 16GB PlayBooks for only $120 plus $5 shipping for the rest of the day.

Why would you want a year-old tablet? For starters, the leaked RIM roadmap we took a look at yesterday shows that the PlayBook, unlike current-generation BlackBerry phones, will be seeing an upgrade to BlackBerry 10 early next year, meaning that the PlayBook could become just about the cheapest way possible to get some hands-on experience with the new platform.

We’re also quite intrigued by some of the software projects currently under development for the PlayBook, including that one that appears to be having great success getting iOS apps to run on the tablet. Don’t forget about the official support for re-packaged Android binaries, either.

The PlayBook runs a dual-core 1GHz OMAP4430 SoC, has 1GB of RAM, and features a seven-inch 1024 x 600 display. New 16GB models sell for about $200.

Update: You snooze, you lose; the site’s sold out.
