When it comes to comparing smartphones, synthetic benchmarks may be well and good for what they are, but there’s still something reassuring about seeing handsets being put to the test with some real-world tasks. When we’re dealing with phones running different platforms, one of the most convenient ways to do that sort of comparison is by looking at how devices measure up with their web browsing. That’s just what the guys over at GadgetMasters recently did, putting a RIM Dev Alpha B handset running BlackBerry 10 up against some of its competition, and the results are pretty impressive.

We’re not looking at online HTML5 compliance tests or anything like that; this is just a simple who-loads-it-faster test for regular old websites. First, the site put the Dev Alpha B up against an iPhone 5. Sure enough, the BB10 handset starts displaying page components more quickly, as well as finishes rendering first. Later, the same comparison was made between the Dev Alpha B and an HTC Windows Phone 8X, and once again, the BB10 device came out solidly on top (with the 8X failing to even complete all the tests).

It would be nice to see how things stack up against a recent quad-core Android, but we’re sure we’ll get that chance eventually. Things might actually look better on BB10 in the future, as these tests weren’t even conducted using the most recent system software.
