BlackBerry 10 could see its own Porsche Design model

Normally, when we tell you about some crazy expensive boutique smartphone, it’s largely due to curiosity or a desire for completeness, rather than suggesting that it’s actually a model any of us will go out and purchase. That’s what makes the Porsche Design BlackBerry P’9981 so interesting: it’s actually managed to sell respectably and establish a high profile for itself – if you watch House of Cards on Netflix or Community on NBC, you’ve likely seen characters sporting P’9981s. The problem is, that’s still a BlackBerry 7 model, and this is 2013. Now it looks like we might just be getting a new Porsche Design BlackBerry 10 to replace it, or at least that’s what this battery cover could be hinting at.

It’s very little to go on at the moment, but that textured surface and long, rectangular cutout do seem to mirror the design elements used in 2011’s P’9981. That bottom edge made out of three straight segments also looks like a page right out of the P’9981 playbook.

This may be far from a slam dunk, but we’ll admit: what we can see here does align with our expectations for a Porsche Design model. We’re still in the dark as to other hardware details, but if we had to bet, this handset might arrive as a customized version of the Q10.
