Just how many ZenFone 2 options does ASUS have right now? Don’t worry; we can come back to you in a few minutes to give you time to count. From screen sizes, to RAM, to battery capacity, to storage, there are a ton of variables to consider when shopping for the handset, and ASUS only seems ready to deliver even more options. Back right before IFA got started we first heard about the ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition – and at the time, we found ourselves wowed by the 256GB of internal flash storage. Now it’s finally time for that model to come to retailers in the US, and while the handset lands with a little less storage, it could still prove to be a hell of a value for the money.
The ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition the US is getting is a 128GB model – though with microSD expansion, you’re free to beef that up with a card of your own (ASUS reports that the phone accepts up to 64GB cards – for a total of 192GB).
ASUS also hooks the phone up with a pair of premium back covers, shipping the handset with both a carbon-fiber-style panel and a metallic, faceted one. Even the phone’s software gets a visual tweak, with on-screen elements given a red color scheme to complement the handset’s trim.
Otherwise, specs of the phone are right where we’d expect from previous higher-end ZenFone 2 models, including a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 4GB of RAM, 2.3GHz quad-core Intel SoC, 3000mAh battery, and 13MP/5MP camera pair. The phone’s selling for just about $400, or $100 more than the non-Deluxe Special Edition 64GB model.
