The first ASUS Padfone, innovative concept that it was, failed to capture the market’s attention when it launched earlier this year. Will the second time be the charm? We first started hearing about the follow-up Padfone just a few weeks back, and it wasn’t long before we saw the phone’s specs leak out, and learned of an official launch event scheduled for October 16. We’ve still got a short wait to go until then, but in the meantime, Bloomberg TV just published a video giving us our first hands-on look at the Padfone 2.

Reportedly, the Padfone 2’s thirteen-megapixel camera does not disappoint, and the big 4.7-inch HD display really shows off the detail of those hi-res pics. We also get a look at the tablet side of things, and instead of hiding under a flap that extends across the tablet’s long edge, the Padfone 2 slides into a dock that keeps it perpendicular to the tablet itself, while also leaving the phone’s back exposed.

With the help of the tablet’s extra battery capacity, the combination of the Padfone 2 handset and tablet can supposedly get two to three days of battery life. We’ll have to see how well that holds up to real-world use, but it sure sounds intriguing.
