We’ve kept a close eye on Apple’s future Apple TV, and even the remote control that should come with it. There shouldn’t be anything hot about a remote control, but this one in particular is rumored to bring a few enhancements like bluetooth, a touch pad, and other features that make it useful for any other Apple product. Today we see a patent on the topic, and it seems there’s more to come.

It seems that Apple is considering the inclusion of a Touch ID sensor on a future Apple TV remote control according to the patent. Now keep in mind this is Apple, and this wouldn’t be the first patent it never launches in a product. That said, it does make sense for Apple to broaden the reach of Touch ID for purchases over an Apple TV. The patent goes as far as to mention iris detection, voice sensing, etc., and we even notice a purpose for it with HomeKit-compatible accessories, in addition to allowing you to use your fingerprint to switch to your favorite TV programing.

We’re expecting an Apple TV refresh to happen later this year. Let’s see if this smarter remote control makes the cut.
