Apple removing some apps that use the Confederate flag

After the tragic events that happened in South Carolina recently, a lot of companies have decided to remove products that use the confederate flag. We’ve seen major retailers following this trend, some removing clothes that portray the flag all together. Obviously as things go digital, these are not the only retailers joining the plan.

Tim Cook recently tweeted: “My thoughts are with the victim’s families in SC.Let us honor their lives by eradicating racism & removing the symbols & words that feed it.” As such Apple has begun removing apps that portray the Confederate Flag, though this did create some issues. There were reports that Civil War games were being affected by this policy, and as such Apple has issued a statement confirming that:

“We have removed apps from the App Store that use the Confederate flag in offensive or mean-spirited ways, which is in violation of our guidelines,” an Apple spokesperson told BuzzFeed News. “We are not removing apps that display the Confederate flag for educational or historical uses.

We should learn more about how the affected developers will react to this soon.
