The iPhone SE is a curious little beastie. Apple recycled the chassis from the four inch screened iPhone 5S, including the same Retina resolution, and then packed in the top of the line A9 processor and 12MP camera from the flagship iPhone 6S. On paper, this seems like it should be really to explain and categorize, but this is only Apple’s second attempt at building a new phone specifically for the mid range market. In years past, Apple would simply reduce the price of the one and two year old iPhones when releasing a new phone. The SE manages to disrupt Apple’s pricing strategy, but handily undercutting 2014’s iPhone 6, and leap-frogging that phone with better tech.
It’s forcing us to ask some interesting questions while we examine who this phone is for, and trying to determine the appropriate demographic for this device is proving to be kind of a fun challenge. Before we can fully review this mighty mini mobile though, we have to get it out of the box. Here’s our unboxing video and iPhone SE first impressions.
