Apple to launch its first public beta of iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 today

Apple spent a great deal of time telling us how great iOS 9, watchOS 2 and OS X El Capitan will be when they launch in the fall. As such, the company has spent the last couple of weeks polishing its operating systems through three private betas that were only accessible to developers. One of our biggest questions was when would Apple launch the public beta of any of these, and the answer arrived today.

Apple has just announced that it will launch the public beta of both OS X El Capitan, and iOS 9. It seems that the third beta that developers received was good enough for consumers, and it does make sense give the fact that Apple has chosen this particular beta to launch services like Apple News, in addition to Apple Music on iOS 9. If the public beta is indeed an exact copy of the third beta for developers, then make sure you have a look at the changes and bugs to expect, as things like using the volume keys to snap a photo don’t seem to work at the moment.

We should learn more about the launch later today, and we’ll update the post as soon as it goes live, so keep an eye. Remember that iOS 9 is compatible with all devices compatible with iOS 8, so if you still own an iPad 2, iPhone 4s, or later, you’re entitled to a copy. If you haven’t signed up to Apple’s beta program, follow our source link, which is currently down, but should go back up when the public beta goes live.

Update: It’s live!
