Apple has broken its records year-over-year with the iPhone, even though not every one of its iPhones has had the same luck. That being said we have lots of reports of Apple launching its next-generation iPhone 6 in the next couple of months, and some expect the changes to be big. Rumors mention a bigger and more powerful iPhone, and some new ones point to Apple betting big on this release.

Foxconn electronics, major manufacturer for Apple’s higher-end iPhones, is apparently expecting orders of as much as 90 million iPhone 6 units in 2014 according to the Chinese-language¬†Commercial Times, which¬†cited data from Citigroup Global Markets as indicating. This would mark a 23% growth in sales when compared to the 13% growth we saw in 2013, even though the same document expects a drop in global smartphone sales as markets mature in 2014.

For Apple to sell that many iPhone 6 units in just the first few months, it does need to actually launch the phone earlier than we’ve seen in the last three years. Time will tell as Apple prepares for its WWDC event in June, where the iPhone 4 was the last smartphone that saw a launch during mid-year.
