Frank Casanova was leading Apple’s iPhone wireless carrier marketing efforts until his position changed recently. According to his LinkedIn profile, Casanova is now “responsible for all aspects of Product Marketing for Apple’s Augmented Reality initiative”.

Casanova is a real Apple veteran, working for the iPhone-maker for the past 30 years. He had a crucial role at the original iPhone launch, striking deals with carriers to adopt Apple’s first smartphone. Assigning Casanova to lead the AR marketing efforts testifies to the fact that Apple is serious about augmented reality.

There’s now a name and face on Apple AR efforts and a person with a track record of working on advanced technology projects at Apple. Frank is the ideal person to lead Apple’s efforts in AR”,  said Michael Gartenberg, former senior director of marketing at Apple.

AR could soon arrive on the iPhone as well, as there are reports talking about a 3D-based AR camera for the 2020 iPhones.
