Apple CEO Apologizes For Poor Maps, Offers Competing Alternative Solutions

There isn’t a website on the planet that didn’t criticize the poor experience of Apple’s Maps application inside iOS 6 (and if there is one, they need to seriously consider things). The Cupertino-based company decided to remove Google Maps from the iPhone 5 (iOS 6) and instead offer its own mapping solution.

There’s nothing wrong with that; after all, Google did not offer some features, like turn-by-turn navigation, holding those back to Android (and there’s nothing wrong with that even). Where Apple made a big mistake was to release Maps, and without a Beta tag at that, as an application to the public when it is really “half-baked” as Brandon Miniman recently mentioned on our Podcast. Initial response to criticism was a brief acknowledgement that “we’re just getting started”.

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, published a letter on the company’s website (visible straight from the home address) where he (the company) apologizes for falling short on “delivering the best experience possible to our customers” with Maps. “We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better.”

Tim Cook goes on saying that, because of Maps being built this way, “the more our customers use our Maps the better it will get and we greatly appreciate all of the feedback we have received from you.”

Until Apple manages to fix maps, they’re pointing out worthy competitors which can offer a better solution, either in the shape of applications (Bing, MapQuest and Waze) or websites like Google or Nokia maps.

“We will keep working non-stop until Maps lives up to the same incredibly high standard”.

We have no doubt that they will and we appreciate the honesty as well as admitting to the failure!
