Any shape you want it, that’s the way you cut it with Sharp’s Corner R concept

Meet the Sharp Corner R concept smartphone. Yes, it’s a concept. Yes, we know it’s beautiful.

While Foxconn-owned Sharp is getting ready for its overdue OLED revolution and the chase for Apple’s pennant, it still has its nifty IGZO Liquid Crystal Displays to work with. And the company seems to have cut itself out of the glasswork with this new Corner R concept that everyone’s fawning over.

Sharp has been working on its Free-Form Display technology to make it possible for the company to custom carve out real, rounded corners on the display and even make them contour down into the corner.

The display on this device measures out 5.2 inches in diameter and is rated at full HD resolution. With the company’s typical penchant for a chin-only bay and minimal bezels on three sides of a smartphone, we’re essentially looking at a sexier Aquos Crystal phone. But remember that manufacturers can trim and curl the display into many more shapes than previously feasible.

This concept could take circular smartwatch design up to the next level. Let’s not kid ourselves, though — this could be next year’s iPhone.
