UpdateSamsung released a follow-up statement which we picked up from Engadget:

“We disagree with Fast Company’s interpretation. Samsung has not made any announcement concerning Android Wear and we have not changed our commitment to any of our platforms.”

The company did not confirm anything about a new Android Wear device currently in the works.

We should point out that Fast Company did not name the “executives” it got this information from.

Our original story is below.

Samsung was a launch partner with Google in bringing out one of a few Android Wear smartwatches back in 2014. But there’s been no expectation of a Gear Live sequel since then, thanks to all the Tizen-powered Gear S models.

Seems like the chaebol’s just fine with “one-and-done” as it has stated to Fast Company that Android Wear is off the table for future smartwatches and wearables at this point. Executives said that its homebrew operating system is more power-efficient and more versatile for use in other electronics and even home appliances.

Would you have wanted to see another Samsung Android Wear watch? Or does seeing things like the Gear S2 have you optimistic about Tizen’s future?
