In this episode of the Android Application Weekly we demonstrate some apps that will help you find that next geocache site, make free phone calls over a Wi-Fi or cellular data connection, and keep applications and folders on your Android secure. To download these directly to your Android smartphone or tablet just take a picture of the QR-Code using Google Goggles or any other QR-Code scanner to be taken directly to the Android Market.

Go Weather is a great app for anyone that wants to check the forecast quickly. The app has many advanced plugins that change wallpapers and allows widgets to be controlled from the home screen. Add various locations to know exactly what the weather is like in lots of cities.

GrooVe IP – No trial available and $3.99 full version


If you have trouble going over your minutes every month then GrooVe IP is the app for you. This app ties directly into your Google Voice service to allow phone calls over a Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G data connection. The interface is easy to use and gives many options to change in the settings.

OpenCaching – A free application


As summer, in the northern hemisphere, nears many of us will want to experience new and exciting outdoor activities. One great activity that is taking hold in popularity is geocaching, where you use a GPS or mobile smartphone to locate hidden treasure others have left at an exact location. The OpenCashing app displays detailed information about the geocache site such as difficulty, notes, and other pertinent information. Make sure to leave another item behind when you have found the one you are looking for because other adventurers will be on that same quest shortly.


ScabBizCards – A lite and $3.99 full version


Has your wallet taken on a thick profile from all those business cards? ScanBizCards is a great app for anyone that wants to keep track of their business associates without having to hold onto the actual copy. The app will scan and render the information from and existing or new photo taken by your Android. The contact information may then be edited and stored as a new or existing contact.


Seal – A lite and $2.83 full version


Seal is a useful app for people that want to prevent their children, friends, coworkers, or anyone else from accessing predetermined apps. Setup a password or Android lock sequence and specify which apps should be kept private. Prevent unauthorized users from changing settings, view messages, use the dialer, and much more.
