Android 7.0 Nougat due with August 5 security update

For the first time ever, it would seem that the new version of Android will not be released at the same time as the latest Nexus hardware is announced. In fact, it might come earlier.

It’s only part of the story that tech leaks reporter Evan Blass is tweeting about.

We don’t know what else he may or may not know, including a date for when we might be able to confirm the existence of two speculative HTC-made Nexus devices and even a possible Huawei-crafted followup to the Nexus 6P of last year.

Evidence of Nougat’s launch next week grew on Reddit with a user posting about getting sent a confidential Android N OTA to his Nexus 6P. The user was trying to revert to the standard Marshmallow build from the Nougat preview when he got the release-grade update.

It has been about 32 months to the point when the Nexus 5 was released with Android Lollipop, well beyond the time threshold Google has set out for major OS updates for its devices.
