The amount of horror stories with Android 5.0 Lollipop is significant enough to have many waiting eagerly for Android 5.1. Surely this newer version is still no Android M when it comes to benefits, but it kills a ton of bugs that reduce the glory that Lollipop deserves. Sony has had a positive track record with software updates, and the trend continues.

Sony has just announced that Android 5.1 has just reached the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 family. This means that devices like the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 tablet should receive the update some time today. Changes include more customization options for muting and audio controls. We also notice a new LinkedIn integration, camera speed improvements, enhanced enterprise support, and even a new SmartWear feature that integrates the Sony SmartWatch 3 as a remote shutter button.

We know that Sony is committed to bringing Android 5.1 to even more Xperia Z legacy devices, so keep an eye if you’re on the list of those still waiting.
