Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Flirts With Delay Rumors

When will Android finally make the leap to version 5.0, presumed by many of us to be called Key Lime Pie? It feels like expectations have been dictating that Google should announce the new build at this year’s Google I/O, but we’ve yet to see any real confirmation. The whole lineup for the event is a bit of a mystery, with rumors about hardware announcements recently shifting from the Motorola X phone to maybe a new variant of the Nexus 4. Now we’re hearing that whatever does happen, Key Lime Pie may not be on the menu, and would instead launch sometime this summer.

Cards on the table: we do not have exceptional faith in this source. Gadgetronica claims to get this info from its “trusty internal sources” before remarking that “everyone, literally everyone” thinks that the Nexus 5 will launch at the event; we’ve already said that there’s little chance of seeing such a thing.

So, grain of salt and all: supposedly Google would put off launching KLP for another two to four months, due to motivation from OEMs to give them time to come out with their own Jelly Bean updates.

Does that sound like Google? It had no problem introducing Jelly Bean just eight months after Ice Cream Sandwich. Why hit the pause button now? Google may very well decide to delay the KLP launch, but it’s hard to believe that this could be the reason why.
